Classroom Management Philosophy:
I believe that effective classroom management is just as important as delivering high-quality instruction. In my classroom, I will establish clear, explicit expectations, norms, and routines to minimize disruptions and maximize instructional time. This approach allows me to spend less time managing behavior and more time supporting student learning.
Classroom Expectations, Norms, and Routines
I am convinced that frontloading classroom expectations, norms, and routines sets the tone for a productive school year and fosters an environment conducive to learning. During the first week of school, I will ensure that classroom policies are explicitly taught and practiced before formal instruction begins. This approach will help establish an orderly and well-managed classroom.
Classroom Expectations
Classroom Norms
Entry Routine:
-
Phones in Pocket
- Materials Out
- Start Bellringer
During Class:
-
Laptops Closed When not in Use
- Participate in Class Discussion
Discussion Norms:
- Engage Ideas, not People
- Support Thinking with Evidence
- Listen to Understand, not Just Respond
- Stay Open to Changing our Minds
- Taking Learning Seriously
This is how thinking and interaction happen.
End of Class:
-
Clean Up
- Return Materials
- Stay Seated until Dismissed
These expectations and routines create a structured environment that promotes accountability, minimizes disruptions, and maximizes instructional time.
